ristorazione — Roppolo · Piemonte
Among the morainic hills of the Serra d'Ivrea, two kilometres from Lake Viverone, Roppolo is home to one of Piedmont's most enduring trattorie. Since 1870, Trattoria Tarello has been bringing Biellese cuisine to the table with the faithfulness of those who have never stopped cooking in earnest.
A threshold spanning a century and a half of history: Trattoria Tarello has been open since 1870, when Piedmontese cooking was not yet a rediscovery but simply the cooking of home. Roppolo, a village of the Serra d'Ivrea, has remained its unchanging backdrop, amid the morainic hills that slope down towards the lake.
The dining room welcomes guests with the simplicity typical of trattorie with long memories, where the owner personally oversees every detail. Those arriving along the Cammino di Oropa (Way of Oropa) pilgrim route find the Menu del Pellegrino (Pilgrim's Menu), with first and second courses from local tradition. On summer evenings, the small outdoor courtyard becomes an intimate corner where time slows down.
The kitchen is home to the house specialities: fritto misto alla piemontese prepared to order, homemade agnolotti, bollito misto and fresh whitefish from nearby Lake Viverone. The kitchen does not chase trends: it follows the seasons and, on request, also brings local game to the table.
The farewell comes courtesy of zabaione with Erbaluce Passito and the house's own wines: Erbaluce and Barbera, born of the same hand that cooks.
