Cookies and local storage

This site uses no profiling cookies and hosts no third-party tracking tools. What it writes on your device is there to make it work, and below you will find the complete list, item by item.

The substance, in brief

A cookie is a small file that a site leaves on the device of whoever visits it. Some are there to make the site work and cannot be removed without breaking it; others are there to measure the audience; others still to build advertising profiles and follow people from one site to another.

Eccellenze Italiane uses only the first kind. There is no third-party analytics tool, no advertising pixel, no cookie that serves to recognise you or to build a profile. That is why you do not find a window asking you to accept something before reading: there would be nothing to accept.

What gets written, exactly

The list that follows is not a template: it is a survey of the code of this site. Every item corresponds to something the site really does.

Remembers which language you chose to read the site in, so the choice is not repeated on every page. It holds two letters — «it», «en», «de» — and nothing else: no identifier, no profile, nothing that would allow the same person to be recognised at another time. It is written only after an explicit gesture: opening a page in another language or choosing from the language menu. Whoever does neither does not receive it, and the site goes on proposing the language of the browser without writing anything.

Holds the sign-in to the private area for certified owners. Without it the area cannot exist: you would be signed out on every page.

A random identifier, linked to no person, which serves to limit the number of events a single session can send. It is a defence against abuse, not an audience measure.

Two cookies that exist only while a certified business is connecting its Facebook or Instagram page: one protects the request from forgery, the other carries the permission just granted. They expire on their own after a quarter of an hour, and in any case as soon as the connection is complete. Anyone visiting the site without connecting anything never receives them.

Remembers what you chose when we asked your permission for advertising campaigns, so we don't ask again on every page. It holds your choices, the date and a random number that says nothing about who you are: it serves only to match your choice with the one in our register, should you ever dispute it. After six months it expires and the question returns.

The items marked as local storage are not cookies in the technical sense: they stay in the browser, they do not travel to the server with every request and they delete themselves when the tab is closed. They are listed here all the same, because the law looks at the substance — what is written on your device — and not at the name of the tool.

Measuring the audience

The site records a few events essential to its own working — a search made, a listing opened, a step across to the map — on its own servers and without sharing them with anyone. They are not used to build profiles nor cross-referenced with other sources, and the only reference that accompanies them is a random identifier that dies when the tab is closed.

It serves to understand whether the search engine answers well, not to know who you are. For this reason it falls among the technical tools and does not require your consent.

How to remove what is there

Every browser allows cookies and local storage to be deleted and their writing to be prevented, normally from the settings relating to privacy or to site data. You can do it at any time and without asking us for anything.

If you block everything, signing in to the private area for owners stops working: the session cannot stay open from one page to the next.
The rest of the site goes on working: the opening video will start again on every page, the map will not remember where you came from and the language will go back to being proposed by the browser at every visit, but nothing breaks.

The typefaces

Even a detail such as fonts can carry your data elsewhere: many sites load them from Google's servers, and at that moment your IP address reaches a third party before you have decided anything at all.

That does not happen here. The two typefaces that compose the site are hosted on our own servers and served together with the pages: no request leaves for the outside in order to write you a line of text.

If one day it changes

If in future the site hosts tools that require consent — for instance the contents of our social channels loaded directly from their platforms — this page will say so before it happens, and a genuine request for consent will appear, with the possibility of refusing without losing access to the contents.
