ristorazione — Rocca Grimalda · Piemonte
In the hills of the Ovadese, at Rocca Grimalda, a restored farmhouse has kept a family story alive since 1983, one built on fresh fish: a trattoria that carries the sea into the heart of lower Piedmont, with the same hand at work for more than forty years.
In the Ovadese, where the hills of lower Piedmont stretch toward the Orba valley, an old farmhouse restored at Località Rio Maggiore (Rio Maggiore hamlet) has kept a family story alive since 1983, one rooted in the sea. Stepping through the entrance of Trattoria Da Beppe means crossing more than forty years of unbroken management, with the same calling to bring fresh fish into the heart of the Alessandria hills.
The dining hall seats up to sixty guests and lends itself to ceremonies and events — a wedding held here, as more than one review recalls, is the most demanding test of all. Outside, the garden with its play area welcomes families: the Piccoli Corsari (Little Corsairs) menu, with gnocchi, pasta, and chicken cutlet, is designed for the children who join the adults at the table.
From the kitchen come mussels alla marinara, clams al guazzetto, bavette allo scoglio, tuna and octopus carpaccio, fish grilled or cooked in a paper parcel. Three tasting menus — at 34, 39 and 44 euros, all-inclusive: appetizers, first course, main course, dessert, coffee, house wine and water — make a complete meal accessible without giving up on the quality of the ingredients.
