In the Val di Cembra, where the Dolomiti di Porfido drop sheer to the Avisio river, a small family estate has practised for generations what in the mountains is called heroic viticulture: vines on impossible slopes, tended by hand, season after season.
In the Val di Cembra, vineyards are not planted: they are conquered. Those of Tenuta Gottardi drop sheer from the treeline down to the Avisio torrent, on slopes reaching differences in elevation of six hundred metres. Holding them in place are over seven hundred kilometres of dry stone walls in local porphyry, built and rebuilt from generation to generation.
The Val di Cembra is recognised as one of Italy's Historic Rural Landscapes: a territory where agricultural time is still measured in seasons, not quarters. Franco and Carlo Gottardi carry forward a legacy handed down from father and grandfather, tending a viticulture that the landscape itself has shaped, and which that landscape continues to define.
Ageing is where time becomes wine. The estate produces the Posad'or Trento DOC Brut and the Posad'or Riserva, alongside a range of Trentino DOC wines — Lagrein, Müller Thurgau, Pinot Nero and Gewürztraminer — each an expression of a grape variety chosen for the character of its own slope.
