In Rome, where the craft of woodworking has passed down through neighbourhood workshops and showrooms, Stemau has been producing flooring since 1980. It is one of the last Italian factories specialising in solid and prefinished parquet: the entire production cycle takes place within the Roman plant, certified one hundred percent Made in Italy.
Inside the Roman plant, the wood moves through every phase without ever leaving the factory: from cutting to drying, from calibration to planing, through to finishing with eco-friendly seven-layer UV coatings certified by CATAS under the UNI 11622-1:2016 standard. Five hundred thousand square metres a year come out of this cycle, using raw materials sourced from areas authorised for logging under strict environmental, social and economic standards.
When it comes to decorative parquet, the hand remains at the centre of the process. The Collezione Antica Roma (Ancient Rome Collection) is born from special techniques: herringbone cuts, greek-key patterns, mosaics, square tiles and geometric designs with inlays and inserts for spaces of distinction. A repertoire that stands alongside the solid-wood Eternity collection and the prefinished Tecnic and Biggest collections, as evidence of a craftsmanship no machine can replace.
Finished floors reach the market through two showrooms in Rome — on Via Pieve Ligure and Via Refrancore — and a network of Stemau Point outlets in Italy's major cities. The Sistema Legno Sicuro (Safe Wood System) guides customers from choosing a collection through to installation, offering advice on materials, adhesives, underlays, wood treatments and products for the routine and extraordinary maintenance of all wood flooring.
