produttori — Ferrara · Emilia-Romagna
On the plains of Ferrara between Argenta and Portomaggiore, where sandy, water-rich soil shapes every season, the Farina family has been growing watermelons, melons and pumpkins since 1975: half a century of open fields, generational handover and ongoing varietal selection.
The rows have stretched across the lands of Bando di Argenta since Roberto Farina founded the business in the mid-1970s. From the 2000s onward, his son Marcello expanded production and refined the selection: Sentinel, Barello, Baraka and Topgun watermelons, weighing between eight and fifteen kilos, and Saphir and Graffio melons, grown from elite seed stock and harvested at just the right degree of ripeness.
The field is also a rigorous agronomic system: every season, crop rotation preserves the soil's natural balance, while irrigation is carefully measured and controlled so that not a drop is wasted. Seed selection happens upstream, choosing varieties suited to the Ferrara microclimate and capable of delivering a high Brix level and good shelf life, from harvest to table.
On the shelves are pumpkins for both cooking and decoration: Delica, Butternut Ines, ridged Butternut, Musquée de Provence, Lunga piena di Napoli and the Halloween variety. Suited to risottos, veloutés and autumn decorations, they can be bought directly from the farm in Bando di Argenta, where retail sales run alongside wholesale distribution to resellers, supermarket chains and national produce markets.
From sowing to direct delivery — across the Ferrara area and the lower Ravenna countryside — half a century of family work in a territory that knows how to give back. Discover the full page.
