In Perugia, along Strada Trasimeno Ovest, Maurizio Tini has been working gold and silver for over forty years with the tools of tradition: loupe, torch, fine tweezers. The workshop was born in 1981 in thirteen square metres shared with his brother Moreno, and it has kept growing ever since.
On the goldsmith's bench, among fine tweezers and skeins of gold wire, the Rosarium ring takes shape: the rosary-jewel conceived on 26 March 2006, which gave its name to the entire collection. Large and richly textured, with its ten beads clearly defined, it is meant to be seen and prayed with: silver with blue enamel or gold with red enamel, the Marian colours.
Every commission begins with a conversation: Maurizio Tini creates bespoke episcopal crosses and devotional jewellery for parishes and church communities, placing his craft in the service of the Church. A graduate of the art institute of Perugia, he personally works every piece in the workshop, carrying into each one the centuries of Italian goldsmithing history that, as he likes to recall, are the true inheritance of anyone practising this craft in Italy.
The enamels that Maurizio Tini fires onto his jewellery hold the colours of filtered light: blue for Mary's mantle, red for her robe, and the white of the dove of the Holy Spirit that appears on other pieces in the collection. The Rosarium collection fills half the shop and also includes items for the sacraments — communions, confirmations, baptisms — where each piece carries a precise meaning.
