ristorazione — Monteroni d'Arbia · Toscana
Among the hills of the Arbia valley, a few kilometres from Siena, Monteroni is home to a restaurant that tells Tuscan cooking without filters: local ingredients, homemade pasta, and a management style that puts people first.
On via Roma, in the heart of Monteroni d'Arbia, La Galera is run by its owner with the hands-on care of someone who knows every table and every guest by name. The family-run spirit shows in the welcome: a Sienese through and through, who has turned his restaurant into a landmark for the town and for those arriving from the Sienese countryside.
The dining room welcomes everyone without distinction: guests with gluten-free needs will find homemade pasta, schiacciata (flatbread) and dessert made with the same care given to the rest of the menu. In summer, dinner moves to the courtyard at the back, where the outdoor seating opens the evening to the air of the Arbia hills.
From the kitchen come hand-pulled pici, dressed with a ragù of cinta senese (Sienese heritage pork) and porcini mushrooms: a dish that tells the story of the short supply chain of the Sienese countryside without needing explanation. Local ingredients — cinta senese, tagliate (sliced steak), and Tuscan cheese and cured meat boards — are the common thread of a menu that takes no shortcuts.
A dish worth the trip to the hills of Siena. The page tells the rest of the story.
