ristorazione — Nocera Umbra · Umbria
In the heart of the medieval village of Nocera Umbra, at the top of the historic centre overlooking the Umbrian valley, a family-run restaurant keeps the cooking of the territory alive with the concreteness of those who know every ingredient by name.
At the top of the historic centre of Nocera Umbra, facing onto the medieval Piazza Caprera (Caprera Square), Ristorante Piazza Grande opens like a natural threshold between the village and the table. The outdoor tables on the little square, with the church in the background, extend the dining room out into the Umbrian landscape: an invitation to stop that the place itself seems to make.
Twenty seats, no more. The dining room is small by choice, and booking ahead is almost a rule. Guests are welcomed by Stefano, son of the house, with a direct, easy manner that reviews describe as being greeted like friends. It is a domestic scale, a rare one, felt from the very first glance at the room.
In the kitchen works the chef-mother, keeper of an Umbrian tradition expressed above all through the local black truffle: truffle frittata, tortellini, ravioli. Dishes built on the raw materials of the territory, with no unnecessary flourishes. Snails appear on the menu as another authentic offering, and the dessert, according to those who have already sat at these tables, deserves the last word.
A table at Piazza Grande is booked ahead of time. The page tells you where and how.
