ristorazione — Sotogrande · Andalusia
On the coast of Sotogrande, at Plaza Blanca, Nonna Monda brings the authenticity of Italian cuisine to Andalusia: a delicatessen that is at once gourmet shop, bistro and a corner of home, inspired by the memory of an Italian grandmother and her idea of a shared table.
The sign of Nonna Monda opens onto Plaza Blanca like the door of a family kitchen: inside are artisanal cheeses — Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino, Gorgonzola — cured meats such as Prosciutto di Parma, extra virgin oil from Puglia and balsamic vinegar selected from small Italian producers. It is a shop where the origin of every product for sale is known.
The dining room and the outdoor terrace are the setting for informal lunches and convivial dinners: here the register shifts, but the Italian character remains. Andrea and Peter Mezzacasa Williams have built a place to sit down, talk and feel welcomed — not a quick stop, but the pace of those who have time to linger at the table.
From the kitchen come focaccias filled with mortadella, stracciatella and pistachio, lasagne ready to take home, cotoletta alla milanese with cherry tomatoes and salad. Segafredo coffee closes the meal or opens it: customers describe it as among the best in the area. The tiramisù, made on site, is the final word.
