ristorazione — Polignano a Mare · Puglia
Polignano a Mare is best told from a piazza rather than a cliff edge: it is there, in the heart of the historic centre overlooking the Adriatic, that NEURO has held its place since 1990, faithful to Puglian cooking and to the rhythm of a town that knows how to welcome.
In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II (the town's main square), facing the chiesa madre (mother church) of Polignano a Mare, NEURO has been opening its doors since 1990. Thirty-six years of presence in the most lived-in piazza of the historic centre have built a rare familiarity: that of a place the people of Polignano know by heart and visitors seek out by name.
The restaurant is run by Antonio and Nina — father as chef, mother in the kitchen — as reviews warmly recall. The tables spread outdoors into the little piazza, amid limestone and the air of the historic centre: a dining room that needs no staging, because the setting is already there, all around.
From the kitchen come orecchiette with cime di rapa (turnip tops) made in house — pasta rolled by hand in the Puglian tradition — alongside Adriatic seafood specialities: frittura mista (mixed fried seafood), impepata di cozze (peppered mussels), and riso patate e cozze (rice, potatoes and mussels). Artisan pizzas complete the circle, made with fresh, local ingredients chosen with the same territorial philosophy that guides every dish.
