ristorazione — Blerick · Limburgo
In the Blerick district of Venlo, where the Maas flows toward the border, a shopping gallery holds an unexpected corner of Italy. Here the Placanico family opened its own market, carrying the flavours of the South all the way to the Dutch riverbanks.
Natascha and Marco Placanico, brother and sister with roots in Francavilla in Sinni, in Basilicata, opened Mercato Placanico in 2024 together with their partners. The project grew out of a precise memory: family lunches, the products their father Vincenzo used to bring from Italy, flavours found nowhere else.
At the counter, the espresso machine works with coffees from the Tostini line — Desiree, Cremoso, Max, Decaf — roasted in Italy and imported directly. In the display case beside it, cannoli and other sweet specialities catch the eye of passers-by. It is the heart of the shop: the ritual of Italian-style coffee, carried intact all the way to Venlo.
In the kitchen, fresh Italian broodjes are prepared, filled to order and ready to collect in store. On the shelves around it, the selection tells the story of Italy through its supply chains: artisanal pasta, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar from Modena, DOCG wines such as Barolo from Beni di Batasiolo and Recioto Fiorato from Tomassi, imported directly with no middlemen.
From the Wieenpassage to the webshop with free delivery from seventy-nine euros: Mercato Placanico brings authentic Italy right to your door.
