On the shores of Lago del Turano, where the Sabine hills slope down toward the still water, the Parente family raises sheep, works the land and turns every season into something concrete. Le Prata is a family-run farm, rooted in a corner of the Apennines that gives back what it is given.
Every row tells of a choice: that of a family who has devoted its life to the care of the land and its animals. Alessandro Parente and his family run the farm with the continuity of those who know every corner of the holding, every season, every animal by name. Here the land is not a means: it is the reason.
Alongside the sheep, the farm's vegetable garden follows the rhythm of the seasons without recourse to chemicals: biodiversity and respect for the soil are the rule, not the exception. The vegetables are sold directly on the farm, at zero food miles, and become the raw material for preserves, jams and savoury spreads made in small batches to family recipes, with no preservatives.
On the ageing shelves rest wheels of pecorino, made from raw milk using traditional methods. Maturation is slow, each wheel tended by hand in controlled conditions. From semi-aged to more mature, Le Prata's pecorino is offered at different stages of ageing, ready to be paired with honey, jams or wines of the area.
Visiting Le Prata means encountering a genuine farming reality, where you can buy directly from the producers. On the page: cheeses, preserves, vegetables and how to reach them on the shores of the Turano.
