ristorazione — San Gimignano · Toscana
In the historic centre of San Gimignano, among the medieval towers and stone alleys of the Val d'Elsa, a family-run trattoria brings Tuscan cuisine to the table in its most authentic form: local ingredients, traditional recipes, no concessions to folklore.
Vicolo dell'Oro is one of those alleys San Gimignano keeps tucked away from the bustle around its towers: narrow, cobbled, discreet. It is here, at number one, that a husband and wife opened their trattoria, bringing to both dining room and kitchen the daily care that only family management can sustain over time, without leaving anything to anyone else.
The dining room is bright and intimate, with few tables — which is why booking ahead is advisable. A window opens onto the valley surrounding the village: a view that shifts with the day's light and accompanies the meal without overwhelming it, keeping the Tuscan landscape as a quiet presence in the background.
The kitchen sends out traditional Tuscan dishes in their most direct form: ribollita, tripe, boards of local cured meats and cheeses, tagliatelle, truffle risotto. The fillet with porcini mushrooms — extremely tender, with fragrant, flavourful porcini — is among the most popular dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients chosen with care for quality.
