On the plain around Varese, a short drive from Malpensa, an atelier welcomes by appointment those in search of a jewel that does not yet exist: handmade, designed to measure, able to tell a story that belongs only to the person who wears it.
Before opening his own atelier in 2008, Ivan Barbato trained at the goldsmithing course of CAPAC in Milan and spent over a decade honing his craft in goldsmith workshops between Varese and Milan. A long, patient apprenticeship, built on gestures repeated to perfection, which today remains the recognisable foundation of every piece that leaves the atelier in Cardano al Campo.
At the goldsmith's bench, every jewel is made entirely by hand using the traditional techniques of fine Italian goldsmithing: precision pliers, torch, gold wire worked to the millimetre. There are no series pieces: made-to-measure commissions are the rule, and each client brings an idea — a feeling, a journey, a memory — which Ivan Barbato turns into shape and metal.
The collections range from Liberty style to Florentine Renaissance, from Mediterranean influences to contemporary creations: a broad repertoire held together by a quality that has earned national recognition — including the Premio Alessio Boschi 2024, the Premio Mike Joseph Fine Jewelry 2024, and the Premio Maestri del Gioiello 2017 — as well as attention from international trade fairs and exhibitions in Italy's art cities.
