produttori — Fumane · Veneto
On the hills of Fumane, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, the story of Scriani begins with a small plot of land a father leased to his son. Thirty years later, that family wager has grown into more than thirty hectares of vineyards cultivated between 250 and 400 metres above sea level.
The Cottini family's most prized vineyards grow on the hills of Monte S. Urbano and La Costa: most are cultivated using the traditional Veronese pergola, while the more recent ones — such as the Ronchiel vineyard — use the guyot system, which allows for greater concentration in the grapes. Cultivation and harvest are strictly manual, honouring every step from vine to cellar.
Valpolicella Classica is tended here without forcing water or nutrients: Scriani's vineyards coexist with the surrounding woodland, preserved as an active reservoir of biodiversity. The soils, rich in basaltic tuff and grey limestone, are crossed by the watercourses typical of the area, which channel into small, moss-covered damp gorges. It is a balance sought, not simply inherited.
In the cellar, the wines rest in French oak and Slavonian oak barriques, following timings dictated by the raw material itself. This is how Amarone della Valpolicella and Amarone Riserva come to life, along with Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto Maddalena, Carpanè and Infinito: a range that spans the deepest registers of Valpolicella, overseen by winemaker Stefano Cottini with the dedication of someone who knows every vineyard by name.
From vine to bottle, every choice bears the mark of a family that has made its own territory a calling. The page tells the rest.
