In Naples, climbing towards the Vomero district, there is a workshop that holds an art centuries old and a family story that spans nearly a hundred years. Here the cameo is no souvenir: it is a jewel engraved by hand, piece by piece, by those who know every gesture of the craft.
On the workbench on via Annibale Caccavello, fine pliers, magnifying lenses and precision burins speak of nearly a century of family history. The De Paola family has handed down the art of cameo engraving from generation to generation, working shell and coral with the same gestures that shaped the masters of the past.
The workshop is open to anyone who wants to understand. Visitors can follow, step by step, the making of a cameo: from the choice of shell to the first cut, through to the finished piece. This is no staged demonstration, but the ordinary rhythm of a workshop that works every day, seven days a week.
Rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants in red coral and shell catch the light with the same intensity as the raw materials they come from. Each piece is made to order: size, subject and shape follow the client's wishes, making every jewel a one-of-a-kind piece.
