ristorazione — Wien · Wien
In the heart of the Wiener Innenstadt, just steps from the Staatsoper, an Italian trattoria keeps its fireplace lit all year round. Mario Collot has brought a piece of authentic Italian cuisine to Vienna, and from Krugerstrasse 4 no one leaves empty-handed.
Krugerstrasse 4, just steps from the Staatsoper: Al Caminetto da Mario opens onto the Wiener Innenstadt like an Italian enclave in the heart of the Austrian capital. The sign is discreet, the atmosphere intimate — yet crossing the threshold is enough to find yourself at another gastronomic latitude, far from the centre and close to something familiar.
It is Mario Collot himself who welcomes guests, in person, with that direct approach that sets family-run places apart from anonymous establishments. The dining room has the right measure for a trattoria: intimate, convivial, with no distance between people. The fireplace that gives the place its name is not a decorative detail, it is the character of the place.
In the kitchen, Küchenchef (head chef) Davide works with a repertoire ranging from Sarde in Saor to Vongole Veraci, from Jakobsmuscheln (scallops) to dishes with truffle from Alba. Sea and land, North and South of the peninsula: an Italian cuisine that does not confine itself to a single region, accompanied by a selection of Italian wines.
