About Us

Established in 1987, we are an independent, family run traditional Italian restaurant

based at the start of Compstall Road in Romiley, Stockport. Specialising in rustic Italian

home style cooking, open evenings only - 5pm till 10pm everyday except Monday.

Who is the Italian?

Originally from Naples, owner Ferdinando Mercogliano studied at catering schools in Vico Equense and in the centre of Naples before working across Italy and Switzerland, settling in England in the early 80’s.

Our recipes and the ideology behind everything we do and make come from Ferdinando. Many of the dishes we make here today are made the same way that he learnt from his mother and grandmother. Hailing from a part of Naples famous for its pasta making history, cooking is in the Mercogliano family blood.

Now a grandfather, Ferdinando is based both here in Stockport and in Lucca, Tuscany. Sharing his time between Italy and England means Ferdinando guarantees constant fresh and original menu ideas, using the best local and seasonal ingredients. Trusting the day to day running of the kitchen to a carefully selected fantastic team of chefs.

In charge of the restaurant you will find his eldest son Alessandro. A true typical Italian family business!

Ferdinando's deep passion for Italian cooking is infectious and it has truly passed down in the generations of his family. Our heads, hands and hearts are firmly in the kitchen and we are driven to offer customers good food, value for money and a true taste of Italy.

Now well into our 37th year of trading here in Romiley, we are more passionate than ever for what we do. We have recently expanded, and we now have 8 more tables in a new downstairs area. Complete with another bar, facilities and our usual friendly service.

Our philosophy is simplicity, quality, authenticity and big flavours, in a fun and bustling typical southern Italian environment. With us you will always be guests and never customers. Learning and growing day by day, we are truly humbled by your regular custom.

Non abbiamo bisogno di usare grassi idrogenati, salse industriali, glutammato o, peggio ancora, alimenti geneticamente modificati per rendere gustosi gli alimenti da noi preparati.

A rendere indimenticabili le nostre pietanze bastano gli ingredienti naturali che selezioniamo accuratamente, la nostra cura e la nostra fantasia nel prepararli e nel presentarli.

Abbiamo tanto a cuore la natura e l'ambiente, in tutte le sue sfaccettature, che poniamo attenzione anche a tutti i materiali usati da FLB, nella tensione al miglioramento continuo verso una piena ecocompatibilità.

Qualsiasi suggerimento per il nostro miglioramento è sempre ben accetto. La collaborazione è la nostra forma mentis, l'humus sul quale abbiamo fondato la nostra vision" imprenditoriale.

Vito hat einen ganz persönlichen Stil entwickelt, der aus seinem Können, seinem Wissen, aber vor allem aus seiner Leidenschaft für schönes Essen von Vito & seinem Team geprägt ist.

Der Kochstil ist puristisch, beim Thema Qualität gibt’s keine Kompromisse! Vito legt Wert auf marktfrische und saisonale Rohstoffe. Frische Zutaten und Kräuter zeichnen den Geschmack seiner Gerichte aus.

Der Gastgeber versprüht „Calore“, Wärme und Herzlichkeit. Mit viel Liebe zum Detail wurde jeder Raum für sich nach einem eigenen Thema gestaltet und ein individuelles und stimmiges Ambiente geschaffen. Ein Mix von neuen und antiken Möbeln verleiht italienisches Flair und sorgt für Wohlfühlstimmung.

Tipp: Unbedingt die Empfehlungen von (Küchen-) Chef Vito probieren und er hat auch immer ein offenes Ohr für spezielle Wünsche!

Ristorante La Batana
Cucina di tradizione rielaborata in chiave moderna!

La Batana è un locale semplice e accogliente, ideale sia per pranzi di lavoro sia per cene con la famiglia o con gli amici.

L’offerta gastronomica si basa sulla selezione delle materie prime e sulla realizzazione di una cucina tradizionale di qualità. La giovane gestione lo rende il luogo ideale di aggregazione che “ti fa sentire a casa” e che permette di trascorrere una serata all’insegna del buon cibo e del buon vino.

Matteo, Alex e tutto lo staff vi aspettano alla Batana: i nostri Chef rivisitano le ricette locali più tipiche all'insegna del gusto e della creatività: la fantasia in cucina aggiunge ai piatti quella ricercatezza in più, che accende lo stupore e gratifica il palato.
