Un peu d’histoire… depuis les Trulli…jusqu’au Trulletto.
Les Trulli
Sur la route qui relie Bari a Taranto, surtout dans le village d’Alberobello, le visiteur découvre la région des Trulli, constructions datant du moyen-age. On les reconnaît à leur toit en forme de cône, construit à sec en superposant des pierres les unes au-dessus des autres.
Les Trulli apparurent en Italie quelques siècles avant Jésus-Christ; ils fûrent importés par des tribus colonisatrices en provenance de Moyen Orient.Les plus récents sont construits avec du mortier et sont dotés de fenêtres, portes et ouvertures reliant les habitations.
Les « cannelles » (pierres arrondies constituant l’ossature du bâtiment, utilisées pour construire les voûtes) étaient délimitées au sommet par une pierre cylindrique, « la chiave » (clef). Le tout, était recouvert de cercles de pierres calcaire appelées « chiancole », superposées les unes sur les autres et très inclinées pour éviter toute infiltration d’eau.
Au sommet, pour fermer le dernier cercle, on plaçait un pinacle décoratif. A l’intérieur, les murs sont tellement épais (1,50 m) qu’on y creusait des « alcoves » (creux habritant les chambres à coucher).

Il Trulletto
C’est au début du siècle, que Gianni Firenze, vivant jadis à Alberobello (le village des Trulli), décida de créer un restaurant où l’on servirait des plats typiques du sud de l’Italie ainsi que des plats propres à son village natal. C’est ce qu’il fit le 14 Juin 2001, aidé par sa belle soeur Carmela Fragapane et du chef cuisinier Casciaro Fausto. Voulant bien faire les choses, il fit venir un artisan d’Alberobello pour construire le four à pizza, en forme deTrullo, avec des pierres authentiques provenant d’un Trullo en restauration. C’est le 1 Août 2003 que Carmela Fragapane et Casciaro Fausto reprirent le restaurant. Vous y trouverez une large carte qui vous fera découvrir des plats typique et respectant la tradition de la cuisine Italienne ainsi que des plats et des suggestions de cuisine inventive et intuitive avec des produit de qualité et cuisiné « minute » ainsi qu’un large choix de vins Italiens de qualité de digestifs et de grappa. Si vous avez envie de découvrir un restaurant au cadre convivial, retraçant par sa décoration, son four à pizza et ses spécialités l’histoire d’Alberobello et de ses Trulli à un saut de l’aéroport de Charleroi, Vous êtes tous les bienvenus. Il Trulletto
È A l’inizio del secolo che Gianni Firenze, vivendo ad Alberobello (il villaggio dei Trulli), ha deciso di creare un ristorante che serve piatti tipici del sud Italia e del suo villaggio natale. Questo è ciò che ha fatto il 14 giugno 2001, aiutato da sua cognata Carmela Fragapane e dallo chef Casciaro Fausto. Volendo fare bene le cose, chiese a un artigiano di Alberobello di costruire il forno per pizza a forma di trullo con autentiche pietre d’un Trullo in restauro. Il 1 agosto 2003, Carmela Fragapane e Casciaro Fausto hanno assunto il controllo del ristorante. Qui troverete un ampio menu che vi farà scoprire piatti tipici e nel rispetto della tradizione della cucina italiana, nonché piatti e suggerimenti di una cucina creativa e intuitiva con prodotti di qualità e cucinati al minuto e così pure una vasta scelta di Vini italiani di qualità digestivi e grappe. The Coach House Restaurant

Once a Coach house to the nearby Manor, this hidden restaurant tucked away in the grounds of the Garden Centre has an old world charm all of its own and has been a favourite for  discerning diners for nearly thirty years.

A wide choice of excellent dishes are on the menu with our produce fresh from the market daily. Our fine wine list complements the menu perfectly, and a special two-course menu is available at lunchtimes.

Way back in 1080, William the Conqueror gave the land at Rokesle, as it was then known, to his half-brother, Odo, Bishop of Baieux. He rented this out to a certain Malgerius who assumed the name Malgerius of Rokesdale. At that time, eight knights commanded by William were given the task of defending Dover Castle and Malgerius did his annual twenty-day stint.

To this day, you still enter Dover Castle through the Ruxley gate.

Down the ages, various families have occupied the Manor House. Gregory de Rokesdale became Lord Mayor of the City of London from 1274 to 1285, this being perpetuated in a tablet on the wall of Lloyds Bank in Lombard Street. The present house dates from the 17th Century with later additions, although some of the interior is probably 15th or 16th Century.

To the right of the house is a large Mulberry tree which goes back to between 1610AD and 1615AD, when it was decreed in James 1st time that all landowners should be encouraged to produce silk. However, silkworms only enjoyed white mulberries and, unfortunately, the blue variety was planted.

Today, the Manor House has been converted into a Children’s Day Nursery under the name of Grace’s, she being the last member of the family to live there.

My name is Antonio Vetrano. The concept for my restaurant is to follow my traditional Italian, family values, along with my experiences that I’ve had in Italy and England, to deliver quality, Italian cuisine, within a relaxed, friendly environment.

The vision of my kitchen is to keep the Italian cuisine as authentic as possible, but in my own style.

For me, the kitchen is my passion, my dedication and I always ensure my food contains simple, fresh ingredients, that are tasty, and as authentic, as possible.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of Italian restaurants in the local area, and this has enabled me to enter food awards such as, the Food Porn and Italian awards. These experiences have enabled me to refine my dishes.

I have lived in Padiham over 14 years, and I never thought the restaurant that I dreamed of, would only be five minutes away, from my home.
