In the hinterland of Siracusa, in the shadow of the Melilli petrochemical hub, a school has been training qualified welders for European industry for over forty years. Itaforma is today Italy's oldest welding school and a point of reference recognised beyond its borders.
Each student follows an intensive programme in TIG, electrode and continuous wire welding, applied to demanding materials such as inconel and super duplex. At the end, the International Welding Certificate — valid worldwide — attests to a competence recognised by companies even before the interview.
The method is radical in its concreteness: ten hours a day, eight of which spent in front of the torch in the workshop. Instructors follow each student with technical patience, correcting their movements until the weld withstands radiographic testing. No one earns the certificate without having learned to do.
Itaforma works with over two thousand engineering companies across Europe: a network built over decades that turns the course into a direct gateway to the job market. Ninety-six per cent of students find employment within a month of completing the course — a figure that measures the school's reputation better than any brochure.
The residential campus welcomes students from all over Europe with free accommodation, meals and transfers: all so that the only commitment required is to learn.
