In the metropolitan area of Naples, in Casalnuovo, a tailoring tradition born in 1948 has found its most complete form: a 750-square-metre production facility where, every day, fabric is cut, basted and sewn according to the canons of Neapolitan tailoring.
Looking at the fabrics arranged in raking light, one understands where a made-to-measure garment begins: with the choice of material, even before the gesture. Since 1948, Sartoria Cavaliere has carried forward the Neapolitan tailoring art — bespoke and made to measure — with entirely handmade work, from the first basting to the final stitch.
The workbench is the heart of every artisan workshop. In the 750 m² facility in Casalnuovo, fifteen craftspeople devote themselves every day to the making: expert hands that translate measurements and fabrics into jackets, suits and coats according to a discipline handed down over time. A reality that has also earned recognition at Pitti Uomo, the international showcase of menswear.
Two thousand two hundred garments a year: a figure that measures the distance between the artisan workshop and mass production, without ever approaching the latter. Sartoria Cavaliere is part of the Le Mani di Napoli association (a network bringing together the local area's master artisans), and alongside its bespoke work it offers a prêt-à-porter line that brings the same care beyond made-to-measure.
