ristorazione — Mugnano · Umbria
In the Umbrian borgo (historic village) of Mugnano, among the painted walls that make it a singular sight just outside Perugia, an artisan pastry shop has carried forward a simple idea since 1991: that every pastry and every loaf of bread deserves the time it requires, the right hands, and raw ingredients chosen with care.
The entrance on Via Alessandra has welcomed those in search of something handmade for over thirty years, in the Umbrian borgo of painted walls just outside Perugia. Paolo Ventanni and Paola Bastianelli opened here in 1991, turning a small ancient tower into a family workshop where artisan pastry-making and bread-baking coexist every day, from six in the morning until evening.
At the counter, the measure of the place is immediately clear: a wide selection of fresh pastries, the cappuccino that regulars mention as the fixed point of their morning, and a display case that changes with the seasons and holidays. It is the visible heart of a business open every day, accompanying Mugnano from breakfast through to aperitivo, with the same care given to every hour.
From the oven come pastries that speak Umbria by name: ciaramicola, torcolo di San Costanzo, pinoccate, torciglioni, and torta di Pasqua al formaggio made with pecorino and parmesan. The bread follows the leavening times of the past, with carefully selected ingredients. At Christmas, artisan panettoni arrive in both classic and more original versions. Everything is made in-house.
Over thirty years of pastry craftsmanship in an Umbrian borgo worth the stop: the page tells the story of every specialty, the workshop's seasons, and the hours to find them.
