ristorazione — Catania · Sicilia
In Catania, in the via Asiago neighbourhood, there is a pastry shop that has not changed its compass since 1970: the artisan quality of Sicilian sweets, made fresh every morning to the founders' original recipes.
On via Asiago, within the living fabric of Catania, a threshold has opened since 1970 onto the same sweet-making ritual. Concetto Bonvegna and Nunzio Verona founded here a pastry shop that their heirs still tend with the same care as at the start: over half a century of authentic recipes, handed down without ever giving in to haste.
At the counter unfolds the full repertoire of Sicilian tradition: cannoli with fresh ricotta, their shells lined with chocolate to keep the crispness through to the last bite; artisan granite served with soft brioche, the great specialty of Catanese breakfasts. Sales are direct, with no seating: the counter is the heart and the measure of the business.
The open workshop is no mere stage dressing: it is a statement of method. The pastry chefs work in full view of customers, using selected raw materials and a care that routine inspections have repeatedly certified. Babà with cream and wild strawberries, chocolate Savoia pastries, iris pastries with abundant cream: every piece bears the mark of the hand that made it.
More than fifty years of craft condensed into every tray: the page tells the full story of Verona & Bonvegna.
