In Guildford, in the historic heart of Surrey, a seventeenth-century building on Quarry Street has been home for almost thirty years to one of England's most beloved Italian tables. Olivo Ristorante Italiano is a family story, of handmade pasta and of an Italian hospitality that has never stopped growing.
Cross the threshold on Quarry Street, and time slows down. The building that houses Olivo dates back to the 17th century and still carries in its walls and timber the memory of old Guildford. Since 1997 this door has opened every evening with the same promise: authentic Italian cooking, prepared by Italian chefs with fresh, carefully selected ingredients, in a place worth the journey.
The dining room speaks at once to the nature of Olivo: a family-run, independent restaurant, where staff remember the names of regulars and service is attentive without ever being formal. In 2025 the Guildford Business Awards recognised Olivo with three prizes: Best Restaurant, Best Business and People's Choice — three voices confirming what customers have known for decades.
In the kitchen, the lit stoves speak of a daily discipline: the pasta is made by hand, the ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta are prepared fresh every day, and ingredients are chosen among the freshest available.
