In Flemish Limburg, in Zonhoven, an authentic Italian kitchen has been carrying forward the promise made by Wendel and Roberto since 2004: to bring the real Italy to the table, from the bread to the last spoonful of tiramisù, with a menu that changes every week to follow the seasons.
Opened in 2004, Mondo Cucina Italiana was born from the vision of two partners, Wendel and Roberto, who chose Zonhoven to build an Italian home far from Italy. Every evening Roberto welcomes guests like a host who knows his own: for twenty years, the door open onto Wijvestraat has been the signal that the evening can begin.
The menu changes every week — mixed antipasti, fresh pasta, seasonal fish, selected meats — because Roberto and Wendel pursue the balance they themselves describe between cucina povera (humble, simple cooking) and gastronomy. Not a fixed repertoire to repeat, but a living kitchen that adapts to the best the market has to offer.
From the kitchen come artisan pizzas and homemade pasta, worked with typically traditional products according to the house philosophy. A rigor that has earned recognition: in 2014 Mondo was voted best pizzeria in Belgium. The menu also features vegan proposals, built with the same care given to dishes from the great Italian tradition.
