On the Gargano coast, where the Monte Sant'Angelo promontory slopes down to the sea between rocks and sheltered beaches, six decades of family history have taken the shape of a beach club with a restaurant overlooking the Gulf of Manfredonia.
At the foot of the Monte Sant'Angelo promontory, where the state road descends toward the Gargano sea, Lido Macchia has been open since 1964. Sixty years of family management have shaped a recognisable place: a strip of sandy beach set between two rocky piers, tended with the care of those who have always lived there.
The renovated terrace, enclosed by glass that filters the light of the Gulf of Manfredonia, is the heart of the restaurant. The tables look directly onto the beach: lunch and dinner are taken with the sea just metres away, in a room that balances the elegance of the setting with the simplicity of the Apulian coastal landscape.
The kitchen works with the fresh catch of the day, set out in a precise seafood menu. The antipasto di mare Macchia (Macchia seafood starter) is the house signature; the troccoli allo scoglio and the troccoli con vongole bring to the table the pasta-making tradition of inland Puglia met with Gargano's catch. No room for approximation.
