ristorazione — Firenze · Toscana
In the heart of Florence's historic centre, just steps from Santa Maria Novella, Via della Scala is home to an address devoted to Tuscan cooking and Neapolitan pizza. La Grotta di Leo brings the region's tradition to the table with a genuinely family-run welcome, faithful to every season.
The entrance at Via della Scala, 41/43r, opens onto a place that carries the authentic character of Florence's historic centre. La Grotta di Leo is a family-run restaurant: behind the welcome stands the owner, Grazia, whom guests remember for her kindness and for the care she extends even to the youngest diners.
The dining room welcomes guests with an intimate, homely register. The menu is built around the most recognisable dishes of Tuscan tradition: ribollita (bread and vegetable soup), pappa al pomodoro (tomato and bread soup), bruschette with local extra virgin olive oil. The selection of ingredients favours local produce and seasonal choices, bringing Tuscany to the table in its most direct form.
Two distinct souls coexist in the kitchen. The bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine T-bone steak) — served with roasted potatoes, at a price guests describe as accessible — is the house's signature meat dish. The pizzas come out of the wood-fired oven thanks to the skill of pizzaioli trained in the Neapolitan tradition: two schools, one single fire.
A dish that is also a story: Tuscan cooking and Neapolitan craft, in the heart of Florence, under the same family's hand.
