ristorazione — Roma · Lazio
In the historic centre of Rome, just steps from the Pantheon, the scent of roasted beans announces the entrance. Since 1944, a single artisan roastery has kept pace with the city without ever changing its tune.
Since 1944 it has opened onto Via degli Orfani 84, just steps from the Pantheon, a threshold that has never stopped smelling of roasted coffee. La Casa del Caffè Tazza d'Oro is the only historic artisan roastery left in the heart of Rome's old centre: an institution that four generations of roasters have kept intact.
Everything is decided at the counter: a full-bodied, creamy espresso with precise balance, a coffee granita with cream that Romans consider unmissable in summer, a maritozzo (sweet bun) with freshly whipped cream — light and fresh. These are specialities built up over time, not interchangeable, recognisable from the first cup.
Behind the counter, visible to anyone who walks in, the grinding corner tells the method: roasted beans worked by hand, turned into powder or sold whole, of the house's own production. Anyone wanting to take the scent of the place home can choose the blend at the counter and buy it packaged.
Four generations, a recognisable blend, a counter that has never closed. The page tells the rest of the story.
