In the heart of Umbria, in Pontefelcino, the sea is not a distant thing: it is a daily appointment. Since 1986 the Ercoli family has been bringing the best of the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian markets to the banks of the Tiber, turning a neighbourhood fishmonger's into a point of reference recognised well beyond the province.
The story begins on 23 December 1986, when Fortunato and Francesco Ercoli opened the shop with the help of their mother, Marisa. Since 1995 Francesco has run the business together with his wife Stefania, carrying forward a continuity measured in decades of trust. That threshold, crossed every morning, marks the boundary between the Umbrian hinterland and the scent of the sea.
Behind the counter, the catalogue of the sea is renewed every day: supplies come from the fish markets of Ancona, Civitavecchia and Livorno, with four deliveries a week between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian. Salmon blast-chilled for tartare and sushi, shellfish and seafood, varieties that change with the seasons and with the routes of the fishing boats — all selected and prepared in the shop.
The kitchen is the fishmonger's second soul: ready-made sauces, seafood starters, dishes to cook at home, and trays prepared for dinners and celebrations. A range of gastronomy built entirely in the shop's own workshop, turning the everyday shop into an already-thought-out meal — and Saturday's, with home delivery on request, into a true feast of the sea.
