In the heart of Ponte all'Ania, where piazza Cavour gathers the life of the Garfagnana village, L'Angolo del Caffè opened in April 2016 within the renovated walls of the former Banca Toscana: a new threshold for an old ritual, in one of the liveliest villages of the Lucca Garfagnana.
Behind the façade that once housed the counters of the Banca Toscana — and next to the former Elettroshop premises — the space has been entirely restored and given back to the square in a renewed guise. Opening that door in April 2016 meant bringing new life to a corner of piazza Cavour that had long been waiting for a new purpose, in the beating heart of the village.
Behind the counter, Doriana Lazzerini brings experience gained over more than a decade running the Antico Caffè Giannini (a historic café): the same care in the coffee and cappuccino, the same attention to the focaccine (savoury buns) and pastries arranged in the display case. It is the recognisable continuity of a craft that shows in the daily gesture, in the rhythm of the espresso machine, in the scent that greets those coming in from the street each morning.
When morning gives way to midday, the kitchen takes the stage: L'Angolo del Caffè offers a lunch break to those who work or live in the village, bringing to piazza Cavour a genuine pause in the middle of the day.
