ristorazione — Messina · Sicilia
On the Strait of Messina, where ferries cut across the water and Via Garibaldi runs parallel to the port, there is an address the people of Messina know well and travellers seek out: a restaurant that has made Sicilian tradition its only agenda.
At Via Garibaldi 112, a short walk from the port where ferries and cruise ships dock every day, Il Siciliano opened its doors ten years ago with a simple idea: to cook Sicily without compromise. Since then, locals and passing travellers alike have made stopping here a long-standing habit.
The décor follows the lead of the menu: everything speaks of Sicily, from the ceramics to the recipes written on the card. The family-run spirit shows in the welcome and in the care with which the dishes arrive — caponata (sweet-and-sour aubergine stew), parmigiana di melanzane (aubergine parmigiana), pasta 'ncaciata (baked pasta with aubergine and cheese), parmigiana di pesce spada (swordfish parmigiana) — traditional Messina recipes that need no reinvention because they need none.
The wood-fired oven is the heart of the kitchen: the pizzas come out with a light dough and a crust that guests describe as artisanal in the most precise sense of the word. Around it, the sea finds its way onto the plate through risotto, mixed fried seafood, and octopus salad, all prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from the local area.
Every dish carries with it a piece of authentic Sicily. Discover the full menu and book your table on Il Siciliano's page.
