In Manerbio, in the heart of the Brescia plain, the spaces of a former workers' social club have found a second life. Dopolavoro 1940 is now an all-day concept bringing Italian cuisine, cocktails and breakfast to the table, within a story worth discovering.
In Piazza Aldo Moro, where workers from the Marzotto wool mill once gathered after their shift, a different kind of threshold now opens. The spaces of the former 1940s dopolavoro (workers' social club) have been returned to the city through a restoration that preserved the building's memory while layering a contemporary aesthetic over it, without one erasing the other.
The dining room tells that dual nature: period charm coexists with an atmosphere its regulars describe as glamorous and sophisticated. The cocktail bar — with its selection of drinks curated for both taste and design — is an integral part of the offer, carrying guests seamlessly from breakfast through to evening aperitivo.
The kitchen turns out dishes built with as much care for presentation as for substance. The most talked-about is the Esperienza Carbonara: it arrives at the table covered by a glass lid holding in smoke drawn from selected burning woods, revealed at the moment of service. Alongside it, the chocolate tortino with a molten heart is among the house's most requested desserts.
