On the north-east corner of Piazza della Signoria, where Florence guards its densest memory, a seventeenth-century palazzo opens its doors to ten rooms named after great Florentine figures. The Pini Renai family has run it since 1999.
The window is the first thing you meet: thrown open onto Florence's most celebrated square, it frames Palazzo Vecchio like a painting that changes light by the hour. The building was constructed at the end of the fourteenth century, and its period frescoes, uncovered during restoration, tell centuries of Florentine history still visible on the walls.
Beyond the balcony, the city unfolds in its oldest profiles. Inside, the original coffered ceilings and antique furniture chosen for each room build an atmosphere that is not decoration but living memory: ten rooms, each different from the next and named after a figure who left a mark on Florence, some with a direct view of the square.
In the morning light, the room comes alive with a breakfast that brings local artisanal products to the table, Tuscan wines from the Frescobaldi estate, and Florentine teas from La Via del Tè. Alessandro and Sonia, with their sons Giulio, Umberto and Matteo, have run the hotel since 1999 with that rare sense of measure that makes every guest feel at home.
