ristorazione — Giardini Naxos · Sicilia
On the Ionian coast where Naxos once stood, the first Greek colony in Sicily, Bonday opens for the summer between the sea and the silhouette of Etna: a beach club with direct access to the water and a kitchen that tells the story of the Mediterranean.
On Via Teocle, in Giardini Naxos, the entrance to Bonday opens onto the Ionian shoreline that holds the memory of Naxos (Naxos, Sicily's first Greek colony, founded in 734 BC). Direct access to the sea is no small detail: it is the premise for everything that follows, the threshold between the salt of the water and the story told by the kitchen.
The dining room faces Etna, which dominates the horizon beyond the Ionian expanse. Here the beach club format meets that of the restaurant: a place that does not choose between the sea and the table, but holds both together, just a few kilometres from Taormina, on one of the most recognisable stretches of the eastern Mediterranean coast.
At the stove, what the Messina coastline offers is translated onto the plate: a cuisine that works within the furrow of Sicilian gastronomic tradition, in a venue that welcomes guests from summer through to the special evenings at year's end. Seasonality here is not a stylistic choice, it is the place's natural measure.
