ospitalita — Isola di Ponza · Lazio
Off the coast of Lazio, where the Tyrrhenian Sea holds the island of Ponza in an embrace of white limestone and turquoise water, Le Querce opens onto the seafront of Santa Maria with twenty rooms and a restaurant that welcomes guests arriving by sea as well.
The rooms face the sea: an unobstructed view of the Tyrrhenian horizon, sober and functional furnishings, light that enters from the morning on. The property is certified Pet-Friendly Verified (verified pet-friendly) — a detail that matters on an island reached by ferry, often with luggage and animals in tow. Twenty rooms across two floors, each with its own slice of view.
From the flower-lined balcony you can see the harbour and beyond: Palmarola, Zannone, the silhouettes of the Pontine archipelago. Domenico, owner and nature guide, knows every path on the island — Punta Fieno, Monte Guardia, Punta Incenso, the woods of Zannone — and leads guests along the lesser-known routes. Boat trips can also be booked through the property with the Cooperativa Barcaioli Ponzesi (Ponza boatmen's cooperative).
In the morning the room fills with light and the restaurant lays out an Italian-style breakfast with homemade pastries. In the evening the restaurant also opens to outside guests — bookings close at seven p.m. — bringing the island's tradition to the table. One review recalls a stay twenty-four years ago, and the return: the same atmosphere, the same warmth.
Le Querce is a fixed point on the island: the sea outside, the kitchen open, a host who knows every path.
