ospitalita — Lanciano · Abruzzo
Among the hills of Lanciano, seven kilometres from the Costa dei Trabocchi and with the Majella on the horizon, Agriturismo Il Grappolo has kept alive since 1998 a simple, precise idea: to welcome guests as one would family, with the produce of its own land.
The window thrown open onto the Majella is a reminder that this corner of Abruzzo is a rare crossroads: the mountains within easy reach, the coast a few minutes' drive away. The contrada (rural hamlet) of Torre Sansone is the perfect point of balance, an open field where Lorenzo Di Loreto chose in 1998 to put down roots, leaving factory work behind to build something of his own.
From the flower-lined balcony, on clear days, the Adriatic can just be made out beyond the hills. The agriturismo's four rooms are named after the estate's own vines: Montepulciano, Merlot, Trebbiano, Pergolone. Each has a different look, air conditioning and private bathroom, and can host from two to four guests. One detail says much about the character of the place: every room has a precise identity of its own.
Morning light enters the room as, in the kitchen, Nadia prepares rintrocili: pasta made by hand with water and flour, rolled out in the Frentano tradition, dressed with duck sauce. The oil, the wine, the cured meats all come from the family's own vineyards and olive groves. For twenty-six years, the Di Loreto family has brought to the table what their land produces.
The page tells the rest: the products, the rooms, how to reach Il Grappolo and how to book a stay among the vineyards.
