A Passion for Food

Pietro loved cooking from an early age and this led him to have his first experience at age 15, working in a professional kitchen in his hometown of Canosa di Puglia in Southern Italy. Since then, it’s been his passion. But his greatest food memory is of his mother’s Ragu cooking on the stove, the aromas of that rich sauce filled the whole house.

In 2015 Pietro came to Ripon to work at Prima Pizzeria, where he developed his skills and fired his ambition. He started at the bottom and worked his way up very quickly going from Commis to Head Chef in just 3 years. However, in November 2021, an opportunity to fulfil his dream presented itself. After 37 years, the Fantoni family were ready to hand over the reins. Now Pietro and his team are carrying on the tradition of delivering an authentic Italian dining experience in Ripon.

Pietro says “Being a Chef and Restaurateur is the ultimate job for someone who loves food. No two days are the same, trying out new dishes, listening to what your customers say, tweaking recipes and constantly looking to improve. But above all, it’s immensely rewarding and great fun”.

He loves to travel, experiencing new food and all types of restaurants. It’s this along with his Italian heritage which inspires every dish. That passion for food which saw Pietro make the move from Puglia to Yorkshire which is at the heart of what a customer can expect from the kitchen.

That’s why he makes a point of meeting all his local suppliers personally to ensure the quality of their produce. From locally reared meat and poultry to his favourite Brymor Ice Cream, Pietro ensures standards are maintained. Even the wine needs the seal of approval before it goes on the list…!

Put simply, Prima Pizzeria serves great food, in a cosy atmosphere, with the buzz of a busy restaurant which makes booking highly recommended – especially at weekends.

The house “Blackboard Menu” is updated on a regular basis to accommodate for fresh seafood and seasonal game. We have an Early Bird Menu from 4.30pm until 6.30pm and a Children’s Menu is available. Prima Pizzeria also has an extensive Take Away Menu if you want the Prima Experience at home.

Located, only a two-minute walk from either Ripon Market Place or Ripon Cathedral, Prima Pizzeria, is at 33 Kirkgate which is a characterful cobbled street packed with small shops.

Quella che era un’osteria sperduta nella campagna, tra i confini di Casale di Scodosia e Urbana, è diventato un rinomato ed elegante ristorante dove accanto alle “anguille fritte che, poverette, scaraventate ancor vive nella padella, saltavano inviperite nell’olio bollente” come scriveva A. Bertolini nel suo “Veneti a tavola” pubblicato nel ’64, si possono gustare una grande varietà di pietanze a base di pesce, dagli antipasti crudi e cotti, ai grandi e particolari primi, ai secondi alla brace e al forno.

IL RISTORANTE
Il viaggio inizia con la selezione delle materie prime, essa viene fatta giornalmente presso la nostra pescheria, sita in Montagnana in pieno centro storico, dalla quale viene prelevato quanto di più prezioso offre il nostro mare ogni giorno.
Siamo noi stessi che ci occupiamo, per tre o quattro notti alla settimana presso il mercato ittico di Chioggia, della scelta del pescato e delle primizie necessarie a servire piatti che racchiudono in se tutta la qualità e la freschezza possibile.

LA CANTINETTA
tra particolarità ed innovazione
La cura per la vigna nella nostra famiglia risale ormai a molti anni fa… Leonzio, uomo burbero ma dal cuore grande, al tempo era dotato di grande passione per la terra e lungimiranza negli affari, infatti non a caso diventa produttore e manipolatore di uve caratteristiche della zona.

Le tradizioni non si sono perse, anzi, tuttoggi il figlio Fabrizio porta avanti con la stessa passione quello che il padre iniziò, innovando con nuove tecnologie e sistemi di produzione gli appezzamenti lasciati in eredità.
Anche la vinificazione delle uve, seppur fatta in piccole quantità, viene seguita meticolosamente dallo stesso Fabrizio che, assieme al figlio Andrea, si diletta nella creazione di monovitigni caratteristici della zona e non.

La stessa passione che vi abbiamo raccontato viene messa nella selezione dei vini che compongono la nostra carta dei vini la quale, allestita e curata a suo tempo dalla figlia del buon Leonzio, continua ancora oggi, assieme al nipote, ad inserire nuove etichette che si sposino con le pietanze servite e che rispettino le caratteristiche di particolarità e innovazione in cui crediamo da sempre.

The story behind Ristorante la Vela is as unique as the food we serve. A mixture of passion, determination and hard work, paved the way for our restaurant over a decade ago.

Ristorante La Vela as a concept was conceived by Michelle Muscat back in 2008. Accountant by profession, Muscat comes from a food-loving family with a long history in the catering business. La Vela started out as a hobby, however by time, it became a full-time job infused with much passion and dedication.

Through persistence and hard work, Michelle Muscat along with her team of talented chefs, created a place where wonder and amazement are merged into one, a place where you can enjoy a lovely meal and a great time.

This popular dining spot is not only known for its atmospheric ambience, but also for the wonderful dishes which are served to customers. Ristorante La Vela is known for hosting a number of celebrities including many popular singers, actors and football personalities from all over the world.

Enrico

Originally from Scicli, Ragusa where he studied the art of cooking, Enrico has joined the restaurant when he was 21 years old. He has grown with the restaurant for the past nine years and with his unlimited passion and dedication Enrico has proven time after time his talent for cooking.

Enrico is our head chef and together with Vincenzo he is pleasantly surprising our customers with new specialities each week.

Vincenzo

Vincenzo is from Ispica, Sicily, and has been with La Vela for over five years now. His delicious dishes speak for his love and passion for food loud and clear. Coming from Ispica, where he went to catering school, Vincenzo has not only knowledge and skills but also great intuition.

The art of combining flavours and creating mouthwatering compositions has no secrets from him, which he has proven many times.

Benvenuti a Raimondi’s Villa Rozenrust

Bij de Raimondi’s kunt u genieten van pure Italiaanse gerechten op een buitengewoon sfeervolle locatie in Leidschendam. De gerechten worden vers bereid met de beste ingrediënten van het moment.

Veelal zijn dit producten uit Calabrie de streek waar de Raimondi’s zijn opgegroeid. Met haar unieke ligging in Park Rozenrust en uitkijkend over de Vliet is het restaurant de plek om in rust te genieten van de heerlijkste Italiaanse gerechten.

Met liefde voor het vak en Italiaanse passie bereiden wij de lekkerste vlees- en visgerechten voor u.

U hoeft bij de Raimondi’s niet te kiezen. Een feestelijke optocht van vele Italiaanse heerlijkheden trekt aan u voorbij. Wel zijn er menusuggesties, afhankelijk van tijd en trek. Zo kunt u door de weeks kiezen voor bijvoorbeeld het antipastimenu of een heerlijke verse pasta. Alle combi’s van het menu van de chef zijn mogelijk. Let op!: Op vrijdag & zaterdag serveren wij alleen het menu van de chef. Restaurant Villa Rozenrust is dagelijks geopend vanaf 17:30. Op maandag is het restaurant gesloten.

Ons restaurant heeft twee grote zalen en een terras en is eenvoudig in te richten om weer op een veilige manier samen te kunnen eten. Bel voor de mogelijkheden en reserveer eenvoudig een plek 070 22 07 581 of stuur een e-mail met u wensen dan nemen we zo snel mogelijk contact met u op.

Het succes van het afhalen heeft ons doen besluiten hier ook mee verder te gaan nu het restaurant weer open is. Bestellen kan eenvoudig per telefoon of e-mail en betalen kan ook contactloos met een tikkie.
