Tuscany uncontaminated: Gorgona Island reopens to tourists this Spring
Gorgona Island, the tiniest jewel of the Tuscan archipelago, will finally reopen to tourists this Spring, thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the district of Livorno along with Ente Parco Nazionale Arcipelago and the penal colony’s direction (still active since 1869).
Apart from the penitentiary, the ancient fishing hamlet hosts only 67 residents, 7 of whom permanently living on the island.
